Attesting Indonesian Documents (FAQs)

Yes - Indonesia is a member of the Apostille Convention.

Indonesian documents can be legalized for use abroad with an Apostille Stamp when destined for other signatory countries without additional certification by the destination country.

When Indonesian documents are required for non-apostille countries, such as United Arab Emirates - Taiwan - Malaysia - Thailand - Zambia - Qatar they need additional authentication by the embassy of the destination country.

Indonesia Apostilles can be obtained for birth, death and marriage certificates, Muslim marriage books (Buku Nikah), Certificates of no Criminal Record (SKCK), Divorce Certificates, university diplomas, medical documents, Certificates of Origin, GMP certificates, Employment Certificates and other documents certified by an Indonesian notary, including powers of attorney and company documents.

Apostilles on Indonesian birth certificates (Akta Kelahiran), death certificates (Akta Kematian) and marriage certificates ((=Akta Perkawinan) can be obtained from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

Apostilles can be applied to original certificates or to notarized true copies (normally possible by sending a good quality scan).

Muslim marriage books (Buku Nikah) require prior legalization by the Ministry of Religious Affairs before an Apostille can be obtained.

Indonesian SKCK Certificates of no Criminal Record (Surat Keterangan Catatan Kepolisian) should be obtained in Indonesia from the police authorities of your area of residence. Non-Indonesian citizens will need to have been registered at a local police station and provide a copy of their Indonesian visa or KITAS (Temporary Stay Permit). Certificates will not be issued to foreigners who have any Indonesian visa violations. In all cases, a set of fingerprints must be provided, which can be taken at a police station in Indonesia or abroad.

Apostilles on Indonesian university diplomas and transcripts can be obtained from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Jakarta. Apostille can be applied to the original or to a true copy certified by a notary (this can normally be done from a good quality scan).

A Power of Attorney can be authenticated with an Apostille Stamp from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.It must be certified by an Indonesian notary.

Certified copies of Indonesian birth, death and marriage certificates, including Bali marriage certificates, can be obtained from the local Civil Registry office in Indonesia. Replacement Muslim marriage books can be obtained from the local Office of Religious Affairs (KUA).

Indonesian university degrees required for submission to the authorities of the United Arab Emirates need to be certified by an Indonesian notary then legalized by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights for final attestation by the UAE embassy in Jakarta.

Indonesian Certificates of no Criminal Conviction are valid for six months.

Apostilles for Indonesian Criminal Record Certificates (SKCK) are obtained from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Apostilles can be applied to the original certificate, or we can make a notarized true copy from a good quality scan.
